Daniel's Heart Foundation began as a dream during the end of my Daddy's journey with a brain disease for 10 years that eventually took his life in 2016. His love of life, love for Jesus, and selflessness towards others never waivered until the end. He had a heart of gold! 

 

As he lost all of his cognitive and physical abilities, the only way to communicate with those he cared about was to say, "I love you," by putting his hands together to form a heart shape. For almost 4 years this was the only thing he could tell us. The heart shape became foundational to our relationship as the only outward form of communication and proved that even in the midst of suffering, love still resides. For this reason our non-profit bears the name, Daniel's Heart Foundation.

It became very evident in his disease that until something devastating happens, you don't realize how many people around us in our everyday lives are suffering from life long physical pain, trauma and illness. This world of living is often overlooked, like a secret kingdom of pain, that only few know about unless you're the one walking through it. The vision of Daniel's Heart became very clear as the disease changed who my Dad was and who I was as a partial caretaker. People need support, encouragement and HOPE! Thus, Daniel's Heart began!
